James Dondero is Co-founder and President of Highland Capital Management, L.P.

Mr. Dondero has over 30 years of experience in the credit and equity markets, focused largely on high-yield and distressed investing. Under Mr. Dondero’s leadership, Highland has been a pioneer in both developing the collateralized loan obligation (CLO) market and advancing credit-oriented solutions for institutional and retail investors worldwide.

Highland’s product offerings include institutional separate accounts, CLOs, hedge funds, private equity funds, mutual funds, REITs, and ETFs.

Mr. Dondero is the Chairman and President of NexPoint Residential Trust, Inc. (NYSE:NXRT), is Chairman of NexBank Capital, Inc., Cornerstone Healthcare Group Holding, Inc., and CCS Medical, Inc., and a board member of Jernigan Capital, Inc. (NYSE:JCAP), and MGM Holdings, Inc. He also serves on the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business Executive Board. A dedicated philanthropist, Mr. Dondero actively supports initiatives in education, veterans affairs, and public policy.

Prior to founding Highland in 1993, Mr. Dondero was involved in creating the GIC subsidiary of Protective Life, where as Chief Investment Officer he helped take the company from inception to over $2 billion between 1989 and 1993. Between 1985 and 1989, Mr. Dondero was a corporate bond analyst and then portfolio manager at American Express.

Mr. Dondero began his career in 1984 as an analyst in the JP Morgan training program. Mr. Dondero graduated from the University of Virginia where he earned highest honors (Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi) from the McIntire School of Commerce with dual majors in accounting and finance. He has received certification as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) and has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Mr. McGraner serves as a Managing Director at Highland, Chief Investment Officer and a member of the investment committee of NXRT, Chief Investment Officer and Executive Vice President of NMCT and Chief Investment Officer and Executive Vice President of NexPoint Hospitality Trust, Inc. Mr. McGraner joined Highland in May 2013. With over eight years of real estate, private equity and legal experience, his primary responsibilities are to lead the strategic direction and operations of the real estate platform at Highland, as well as source and execute investments, manage risk and develop potential business opportunities, including fundraising, capital markets transactions and joint ventures. Mr. McGraner also is a licensed attorney and was formerly an associate at Jones Day, with a practice primarily focused on private equity, real estate and mergers and acquisitions. Mr. McGraner has led the acquisition and financing of over $1.5 billion of real estate and advised on $16.3 billion of mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions. Mr. McGraner received a BS from Vanderbilt University and JD from Washington University School of Law.

Matthew Goetz

Mr. Goetz is a Director, Real Estate at NexPoint Advisors, L.P. Previously, he was a Senior Real Estate Analyst at Highland Capital Management, L.P. Prior to joining Highland in June 2014, he was a Senior Analyst with CBRE’s Debt and Structured Finance group. Mr. Goetz has underwritten over $7 billion and more than 30 million square feet of multifamily, office, and retail commercial real estate. Since May 2011, Mr. Goetz and his team closed over $2.5 billion in debt financing. Prior to joining the Debt & Structured Finance group, he held roles as an Analyst and Senior Analyst for CBRE’s FDIC account where he assisted in the asset management and disposition of over 3,000 REO assets valued at more than $750 million. He also worked with the Recovery and Restructuring Services (“RRS”) group where he provided commercial real estate consulting services to banks, special servicers, hedge funds, and private equity groups. Mr. Goetz graduated from St. Edward’s University with a BBA in Finance.

The Advisor’s management team has extensive real estate experience, having completed over $5.2 B of real estate transactions since 2014. At the end of first quarter 2015, an affiliate of the Advisor completed a public listing of its $1B value-add multifamily portfolio under the ticker symbol “NXRT” on the New York Stock Exchange.

NexPoint Real Estate Strategies Fund will be managed primarily by Matthew McGraner, Managing Director at Highland. Mr. McGraner also serves as Chief Investment Officer and a member of the investment committee of NXRT, Chief Investment Officer and Executive Vice President of NexPoint Multifamily Capital Trust, Inc. (NMCT) and Chief Investment Officer and Executive Vice President of NexPoint Hospitality Trust, Inc.
